Rivian delivered 10,400 vehicles in Q1, up 20% year-over-year, while software revenue rose 108% last quarter. The launch of R2 SUVs—featuring a base $45,000 price, up to $57,000 performance variant, 45% lower material costs and billions in capital savings from production consolidation—bolsters profit outlook.

1. Q1 Deliveries and Software Growth

Rivian delivered 10,400 vehicles in Q1, marking 20% year-over-year growth that exceeded expectations despite ongoing product transitions. Software revenue jumped 108% in Q4, driven by over-the-air updates and subscription services that demonstrate the company’s growing digital ecosystem monetization.

2. R2 SUV Launch and Production Shift

First customer R2 SUVs have rolled off Rivian’s Normal, Illinois assembly line after production was moved from a planned Georgia plant, saving billions in capital expenditure. The midsize SUVs start at $45,000 for the base model and scale to $57,000 for the performance variant, while the new platform cuts material costs by 45% compared to the R1.

3. Autonomous Driving Development

The R2 integrates laser-based sensors and enhanced computation chips to capture driving data for Rivian’s large-scale AI training. Rivian plans to introduce hands-free Level 2 driver assistance later this year and aim for Level 3 highway autonomy next year to advance its self-driving capabilities.
