ROL•Rollins’ Orkin is launching the Insect 2151 virtual science fair for students aged 14–18, offering $180,000 in scholarship awards including a $100,000 top prize. The competition marks Orkin’s 125th anniversary and seeks insect-inspired innovations across fields like robotics, AI, public health and sustainability.
1. Contest Launch and Structure
Orkin has opened entries for the Insect 2151 virtual science fair, inviting students ages 14–18 to submit three-minute video presentations exploring insect-inspired solutions to future challenges. Participants must select an insect, formulate a scientific question, conduct research or prototype designs, and articulate their concept’s potential impact.
2. Scholarship Prizes and Innovation Focus
A total of $180,000 in scholarships will be awarded: $100,000 for first place, $40,000 for second, $20,000 for third and four $5,000 honorable mentions. Projects may span robotics, artificial intelligence, environmental stewardship, public health, design, sustainability or other disciplines influenced by insect science.
