Russia's Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery suspends operations after drone attack, governor says
USO•A drone attack damaged the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, forcing it to suspend operations temporarily, Governor Yuri Slyusar said. The refinery has annual capacity of 5 million metric tons of oil, or about 100,000 barrels per day.
1. Refinery operations suspended
Russian air defence units destroyed about 50 drones over the Rostov region overnight, and a drone attack damaged the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, forcing it to suspend operations temporarily, Governor Yuri Slyusar said.
2. Capacity and energy truce
The refinery sells fuel mainly for export and has annual capacity of 5 million metric tons of oil, or around 100,000 barrels per day. The attack followed discussions at United Nations headquarters on a potential energy-related ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has warned that Ukraine would strike back if the sides cannot agree on a truce covering energy assets.
