Santander's minimum CET1 capital requirement rises to 9.92% for 2027
SAN•The ECB set Banco Santander’s minimum CET1 requirement at 9.92% from Jan. 1, 2027, up from 9.85%, and its minimum total capital requirement at 14.14%, up from 14.11%.
1. Capital requirements increase
The ECB set Banco Santander’s minimum CET1 requirement at 9.92% from Jan. 1, 2027, compared with 9.85% previously. The minimum total capital requirement rises to 14.14% from 14.11%.
2. Pillar 2 falls
Pillar 2 requirements decline to 1.65% from 1.74% as supervisory add-ons for nonperforming exposure provisioning cease to apply. A higher countercyclical capital buffer more than offsets that reduction. At Sept. 30, 2026, Santander’s CET1 and total capital ratios were 12.69% and 17.01%, respectively.
