SAP Commits Over €1 Billion to Scale Prior Labs Frontier AI Lab
SAP will acquire Prior Labs and invest more than €1 billion over four years to establish an independent frontier AI lab focused on tabular foundation models. Integration with SAP AI Core and Business Data Cloud will embed advanced Tabular Foundation Models for predicting payment delays, churn risk and supplier performance.
1. Acquisition Overview
On May 4, 2026 SAP entered a definitive agreement to acquire Prior Labs, a pioneer in Tabular Foundation Models. Terms were not disclosed and the transaction remains subject to regulatory approval, with Prior Labs continuing to operate as an independent entity.
2. Investment and Lab Strategy
SAP will invest over €1 billion across four years to scale Prior Labs into a globally leading frontier AI lab for structured business data. The lab will feed into SAP AI Core, SAP Business Data Cloud and the Joule agentic layer to accelerate productization.
3. Technology and Business Impact
Prior Labs’ TabPFN-2.6 model matches the accuracy of a four-hour automated machine learning pipeline instantly, offering predictive insights on payment delays, customer churn and supplier performance. A conversational interface and in-context learning will enable business users to generate instant, reliable predictions without model training.
4. Timeline and Integration
The acquisition is expected to close in Q2 or Q3 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. Post-close, SAP plans to integrate frontier AI research into its enterprise suite, advancing causality understanding and agentic AI capabilities with GDPR-compliant tabular predictions.
