Saylor-led Strategy reports second-quarter loss as bitcoin prices tumble
MSTR•Strategy reports second-quarter loss amid bitcoin slump
July 30 (Reuters) - Michael Saylor's Strategy reported a second-quarter loss on Thursday, as a slump in bitcoin prices eroded the value of its sizeable cryptocurrency holdings amid heightened market volatility.
Bitcoin has retreated sharply from its October high, with uncertainty over U.S. interest rates and geopolitical tensions driving investors away from riskier assets despite the Trump administration's crypto-friendly policies.
Here are some details:
- The company posted a net loss of $8.22 billion, or $24.45 per share, for the three months ended June 30, compared with a net income of $10.02 billion, or $32.60 per share, a year earlier.
- The Tysons Corner, Virginia-based Strategy held 843,775 bitcoins as of July 26.
- "In the second quarter of 2026, Strategy strengthened its balance sheet while navigating a meaningful bitcoin price decline," said CEO Phong Le.
- Shares of Strategy, the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, were down about 0.5% in extended trading. As of Thursday's close, they were down about 35.7% so far this year.
