Schneider National Names Jim Filter CEO, Mark Rourke to Executive Chairman
Schneider National’s board will appoint Jim Filter as President and CEO effective July 1, 2026, succeeding Mark Rourke, who will become Executive Chairman. James Welch will move to Lead Independent Director on the same date as part of the company’s succession plan to support future growth.
1. Q4 Earnings Miss Expectations
Schneider National reported adjusted earnings of $0.13 per share for the quarter ended December 31, 2025, falling short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.21 and down from $0.20 in the same quarter a year earlier. The company cited persistent cost pressures in its over-the-road segment, where fuel surcharges failed to fully offset higher diesel expenses and driver wage inflation. While intermodal volumes remained stable with a 1% year-over-year increase in container lifts, total revenue contracted by approximately 2%, reflecting softer demand in dedicated truckload services and a 3% decline in brokerage loads compared with Q4 2024. Operating margin narrowed by 180 basis points to 8.2%, driven by elevated maintenance outlays and underutilization of capacity in key regions.
2. Leadership Transition Strengthens Succession Planning
Schneider’s board announced that CEO Mark Rourke will transition to Executive Chairman effective July 1, 2026, ensuring continuity of strategic oversight following his tenure since 2019, during which he expanded the intermodal network by 25% and grew dedicated operations revenue by $500 million. Jim Filter, currently Executive Vice President and Group President of Transportation and Logistics, will succeed Rourke as President and Chief Executive Officer on the same date. Filter, 54, brings 27 years of tenure, having led Logistics & Supply Chain Management and Intermodal divisions and overseen the implementation of Schneider FreightPower®, the company’s digital marketplace launched in 2022. In addition, James Welch will become Lead Independent Director, reinforcing governance with his five years as board chairman and eight years of board service.
