Sempra’s ECA LNG Phase 1 Achieves First LNG Production with 3.25 Mtpa Capacity
SRE•Sempra Infrastructure has commenced first LNG production at the ECA LNG Phase 1 facility in Ensenada, Mexico, initiating commissioning of its 3.25 Mtpa liquefaction train developed with TotalEnergies. Full operations are slated for summer 2026 under long-term SPAs with TotalEnergies and Mitsui, boosting U.S. gas exports to Asia.

The project features a single 3.25 million tonnes per annum liquefaction train developed in a joint venture with TotalEnergies, underpinned by long-term sales agreements with TotalEnergies and Mitsui & Co.
3. Commercial Operations Timeline
Substantial completion of Phase 1 is expected in summer 2026, at which point LNG deliveries under the long-term SPAs will commence, followed by the ramp-up to full capacity.
4. Strategic Impact on Export Portfolio
Positioned on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, ECA LNG Phase 1 offers the shortest shipping route to Asia and other Pacific Basin markets, reducing transit times and transportation costs while enhancing Sempra Infrastructure’s dual-coast LNG portfolio.
