Sempra’s Oncor Plans $7B Transmission Upgrades to Support 16GW Demand
SRE•Oncor will invest over $7 billion in ERCOT-endorsed transmission projects across southern Dallas–Fort Worth and the I-35 corridor, supporting roughly 16 gigawatts of new electric demand. These projects sit within Oncor’s record $47.5 billion 2026–2030 cap plan and a $10 billion incremental opportunity, with service slated from 2026 to 2034.
1. ERCOT Endorsements and Project Scope
Texas grid operator ERCOT approved multiple high-voltage transmission upgrades in southern Dallas–Fort Worth and along the I-35 corridor, joining earlier April approvals. Combined, these projects require more than $7 billion in new investment to reinforce regional grid capacity.
2. Construction and Investment Plan
Oncor Electric Delivery, in which Sempra holds an 80.25% stake, will construct the bulk of these projects. These investments fall under Oncor’s record $47.5 billion base capital plan for 2026–2030 and a $10 billion incremental opportunity extending beyond 2030.
3. Demand Growth and Timeline
Once active, the upgrades will support approximately 16 gigawatts of incremental electric demand driven by population and industrial growth. Project commissioning is scheduled between 2026 and 2034, with each phase following individual approval timelines.
4. Regulatory Approvals and Next Steps
Final project execution awaits Public Utility Commission of Texas approval of the Batch Zero interconnection process, expected this month. ERCOT will then detail additional transmission needs for large-load customers in the second quarter of 2027.
