Senators will try to win approval of permanent Chinese car ban in November
XLY•Two U.S. senators will wait until the Senate returns from recess in November to seek approval of a permanent ban on Chinese vehicles after failing to address Senator Rand Paul’s concerns.

Senators Bernie Moreno and Elissa Slotkin will not seek fast-track approval of their bill until the Senate returns from recess in November. Supporters were unable to address Republican Senator Rand Paul’s concern that the measure unfairly targets Mercedes-Benz.
2. Bill’s ownership threshold
The bill approved by the Senate Commerce Committee in July would bar companies with more than 15% ownership by Chinese entities from selling vehicles in the United States. Mercedes-Benz has nearly 20% passive ownership from Chinese entities, and Moreno said the final version would ensure the automaker could continue selling vehicles in the country. A House version has more than 100 co-sponsors, and automakers and legislative aides hope for passage this year.
