1. Transaction Details
Servier has agreed to acquire Edgewise Therapeutics’ muscular dystrophy operations for a total of $2.65 billion, comprising a $1.55 billion upfront payment and up to $1.1 billion tied to regulatory and commercial milestones. The transaction is structured to close in the third quarter of 2026, transferring all muscular dystrophy programs to Servier.
2. Sevasemten Development
The deal includes Edgewise’s lead candidate Sevasemten, an oral therapy being evaluated in a pivotal trial for Becker muscular dystrophy and a Phase 2 study in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Sevasemten’s mechanism aims to protect fragile muscle fibers from contraction-induced damage, and long-term extension data have shown stable physical function over 3.5 years and favorable cardiac safety.
3. Market Reaction
Following the announcement, Edgewise Therapeutics’ stock spiked more than 20%, reaching record-high levels and marking its largest one-day gain in over six months. Investors have responded positively to the de-risking of the muscular dystrophy program and the substantial upfront payment bolstering the company’s cash position.
