Shell, Chevron cut Gulf of Mexico output as Tropical Storm Isaias approaches
SHEL•Shell and Chevron said they were curtailing offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico as Tropical Storm Isaias approached. Shell shut in production at five assets, while Chevron began shut-in procedures at four facilities.
1. Shell shuts in production
Shell said it was evacuating all personnel and shutting in production at its Mars, Olympus, Ursa, Vito and Appomattox assets. It had already moved non-essential personnel from its Stones asset.
2. Chevron curtails operations
Chevron said it had begun shut-in procedures at four company-operated Gulf of Mexico facilities and was transporting some additional personnel onshore. Production at its other five facilities remained at normal levels.
3. Storm forecast
Tropical Storm Isaias formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday and was forecast to strengthen into a hurricane before reaching the southern U.S. coast early Saturday, bringing heavy rains, storm surges and possible tornadoes across several states.
