Singapore picks 4 data centre firms for 200 MW capacity boost
EQIX•Singapore allocates 200 MW of new data centre capacity
Singapore has allocated 200 megawatts of new capacity across four data centre firms as it seeks to bolster its position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence.
- Digital Realty DLR.N, Equinix EQIX.O, Keppel Data Centres and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres were each given 50 MW of additional capacity, Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority said in a statement on Friday.
- The four firms have committed to exceed the minimum sustainability requirements and will power more than half of their data centre capacity from green energy sources, it said.
- Singapore has more than 1.4 gigawatts of capacity for its data centres, which account for about 7% of the city-state's power consumption, a share projected to rise to 12% by 2030, according to IMDA.
- Singapore faces stiff competition in the sector from neighbouring Malaysia, which replaced it as the region's fastest-growing data centre hub.
