Sky Quarry Secures MOU for SAF Pilot on 180M-Barrel Oil Sands and 5,000 BPD Refinery
SKYQ•Sky Quarry entered a three-year MOU with Southern Energy Renewables and DevvStream to pilot SAF and recycled-hydrocarbon blends using its PR Spring oil sands (180 million barrels) and 5,000 BPD Nevada refinery. It issued RFPs to integrate PR Spring heavy oil into Foreland and monetize 7 MW of turbine capacity targeting 800,000 barrels output.
1. Three-Year MOU for SAF and Recycled Fuels
On May 7, 2026, Sky Quarry executed a non-binding three-year memorandum of understanding with Southern Energy Renewables and DevvStream to pilot sustainable aviation fuel, specialty fuels and recycled-hydrocarbon blends at its PR Spring oil sands asset and integrate technology upgrades at the Foreland Refinery.
2. Upstream-Downstream Integration RFPs
During late April and early May 2026, the company issued request-for-proposals to secure partners for accelerated development of its approximately 180 million barrels of PR Spring heavy oil, including direct integration into the Foreland Refinery and a separate RFP to monetize 7 MW of installed turbine generation at the oil sands site.
3. Foreland Refinery Upgrades and Capacity
The Foreland Refinery operates under a 5,000 barrels-per-day permit and completed high-impact system upgrades on January 27, 2026, unlocking full utilization of its permitted capacity and laying groundwork for potential scale-up.
4. Growth Targets and Policy Alignment
Sky Quarry’s integrated platform combines 180 million barrels of in-place feedstock, permitted refining infrastructure and low-carbon collaboration under a roadmap targeting 800,000 barrels annual output, while leveraging Section 45Z tax credits and Defense Production Act prioritization to enhance its domestic refining positioning.
