Smith+Nephew, Imperial College London launch five-year surgical robotics research centre
SNN•Five-year surgical robotics partnership launched
Smith+Nephew launched a five-year surgical robotics partnership with Imperial College London, establishing its first university-based innovation center.
The program targets faster translation of computer vision and sensing research into robotic surgery for musculoskeletal conditions.
The center plans to fund 1 senior postdoctoral role and up to 7 PhD studentships, embedded with Smith+Nephew engineers and clinicians.
Research aims to reduce invasiveness, expand use beyond specialist centers, and improve real-time anatomy tracking without bone pins or rigid markers.
