Sony Group Corporation, via Sony Semiconductor Solutions, agreed with Mitsubishi Electric to form a joint venture, Advanced Vision Solutions.
Operations are scheduled to start in October 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and clearances.
The venture will develop AI vision-sensor products for manufacturing, running AI-based visual analysis directly on image sensors.
It targets factory automation use cases, including labor savings, quality monitoring, predictive maintenance, and autonomous equipment control.
The companies said the venture combines Sony image-sensor and edge-AI technology with Mitsubishi Electric factory automation control systems.
