Southwest Joins AWS’s $1 B AI Engineering, Unveils Independence One Livery

Southwest Airlines is part of AWS’s new Forward Deployed Engineering division, backed by a $1 billion investment to embed AI engineers within client teams. The program uses purpose-built AI agents overseen by human specialists to reduce enterprise software deployment from months to days.
Southwest introduced its Independence One specialty aircraft livery to honor America’s 250th anniversary, featuring a FlightAware tracking icon with thirteen stars. Beginning July 1 through Sept. 9, pilots will distribute 'America Trio' trading cards and decorate DCA terminals with festive themed installations.
