Charter is in discussions to route mobile traffic through SpaceX’s direct-to-cell service, enabling the company to leverage its satellite-to-device network instead of building additional wireless infrastructure and tapping Charter’s distribution and billing operations for Starlink Mobile expansion.
SpaceX’s $25 billion debut bond offering saw its largest $7 billion tranche of 5.35% 2031 notes trade at T+115, while its 5.875% 2036 and 6.65% 2056 tranches traded at T+156 and T+197 respectively, reflecting investor confidence in Starlink’s growth prospects.
Rocket Lab agreed to acquire Iridium Communications for $8 billion in cash and stock, adding Iridium’s 66-satellite network, narrowband non-terrestrial connectivity, positioning services and defense contracts to its portfolio, a direct challenge to SpaceX’s low-Earth orbit services.
Iridium’s maritime, aviation and government market offerings, combined with Rocket Lab’s planned heavy-lift launch capability, could intensify competition, prompting SpaceX to accelerate constellation deployment and offer competitive pricing to maintain market leadership.
