Sprouts Invests in 111 MW Solar and 340 MWh Storage Project with $30 M Community Benefit

SFMSFM

Sprouts Farmers Market invested in a 111 MWdc solar array paired with 85 MWac/340 MWh battery storage to power 19,000 homes each year and avoid 145,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions. The project will generate over $30 million in revenue for Arizona schools and communities through leases and tax remittances.

1. Tax Credit Investment Deal

Sprouts partnered with Schneider Electric, U.S. Bank, and Longroad Energy to execute a Tax Credit Transfer supporting the Sun Pond Solar + Battery Energy Storage project in Maricopa County. The arrangement ensures predictable tax benefits and advances Sprouts’ sustainability objectives.

2. Project Scale and Environmental Impact

The completed installation comprises a 111 MWdc solar array and an 85 MWac/340 MWh battery storage system. It will supply clean power to roughly 19,000 homes annually while preventing about 145,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year.

3. Community Economic Benefits

Over its operational lifetime, the Sun Pond facility is projected to deliver more than $30 million in lease payments and tax remittances for local schools and municipal services. Construction employed over 200 workers, including registered apprentices, and used U.S.-made technology.
