Standard Lithium Secures 8,000 t/y Trafigura Offtake, Processes 1 M Barrel Brine

Standard Lithium signed a binding offtake agreement with Trafigura for 8,000 tonnes per year of battery-grade lithium carbonate over 10 years and processed 1 million barrels of Smackover brine with 15,000 DLE cycles at its Arkansas demonstration plant. The company holds $141 million cash, no debt, and plans a final investment decision and SWA Project construction start in 2026.

1. Binding Offtake Agreement

Standard Lithium’s Smackover Lithium partnership signed its first binding commercial offtake with Trafigura Trading LLC to supply 8,000 metric tonnes per year of battery-quality lithium carbonate for 10 years, covering over 40% of targeted offtake commitments for the SWA Project.

2. Demonstration Plant Milestones

At the Arkansas Demonstration Plant, the company processed 1 million barrels of real brine, completed over 15,000 Direct Lithium Extraction cycles, and logged roughly 340,000 man-hours over six years without incidents, validating its core DLE technology.

3. Cash Position and Capital Structure

As of March 31, Standard Lithium reported $141.0 million in cash and $139.5 million in working capital with no term or revolving debt obligations, bolstering its balance sheet ahead of project financing.

4. SWA Project FID and Construction Timeline

The company is finalizing EPCC and EPCM contracts, seeking NEPA approval, closing remaining offtake agreements and project financing to reach a final investment decision and begin SWA Project construction in 2026, targeting first production in 2029.
