SteelPhalt Launches ISO-Certified EPD Tool Quantifying Asphalt Carbon Footprint

NVRINVRI

SteelPhalt, part of Harsco Environmental, launched a certified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) tool generating ISO-aligned life-cycle-based reports, audited annually, quantifying carbon footprints of its steel-slag asphalt products. The verified EPDs enable road-construction clients to select sustainable asphalt types and comply with voluntary or mandated environmental reporting.

1. EPD Tool Launch

SteelPhalt, a division of Harsco Environmental’s ecoproducts line, has introduced an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) tool designed to produce product-specific life-cycle assessments for its steel-slag asphalt offerings. The platform allows clients to access transparent, data-driven insights into the environmental performance of asphalt types before purchase.

2. Certification and Reporting Standards

The EPD tool follows the International EPD System framework and aligns with ISO-14025, ISO-14040 and ISO-14044 standards, ensuring globally recognized validation. A multi-step development process assessed energy consumption, machinery operations and material transport, with annual audits safeguarding the integrity of each declaration.

3. Client Benefits and Sustainability Impact

By providing verified, standardized EPDs, SteelPhalt empowers road-construction clients to demonstrate alignment with sustainability goals and comply with both voluntary and regulatory environmental reporting requirements. This initiative reinforces SteelPhalt’s leadership in lowering carbon footprints and advancing high-performance, recycled-material asphalt solutions.
