Stellantis CEO sees eventual US EV shift, says auto industry becoming more regional
STLA•Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said US EV adoption will eventually grow, but more slowly than in other regions; EVs accounted for 7% of US auto sales this year, unchanged from five years ago. He also said trade barriers are making the auto industry less global and more regional.
1. US EV adoption
Filosa said the US auto market will eventually embrace electrification, though the transition will be slower than in other regions. EVs accounted for 7% of US auto sales this year, unchanged from five years ago. He said interest is growing in range-extender technology for large pickups and SUVs, driven by customer demand rather than regulation.
2. Industry regionalization
Filosa said trade barriers are making the automotive sector less global and more regional. He said automakers need to focus on local customer preferences and regulations while maintaining global scale, particularly in technology, and described partnerships as Stellantis’ approach.
