Stellantis Extends Turin Plant Halt, Hybrid Fiat 500 Assembly Falls to 400 Units
STLA•Stellantis will halt Mirafiori plant operations in Turin from July 27 to 31 due to engine, bumper and sensor shortages, cutting daily hybrid Fiat 500 assembly to 400 units. This extension precedes a planned three-week August shutdown and threatens the 2026 target of 100,000 hybrid and electric Fiat 500 units.
1. Extended Summer Halt
Stellantis informed unions on June 29 that the Mirafiori plant in Turin will extend its summer shutdown by one week, halting operations from July 27 to July 31. This follows a separate week-long closure for a local public holiday and precedes a planned three-week shutdown in August.
2. Parts Shortages and Production Cuts
The one-week halt stems from shortages of engines, bumpers and sensors, which have constrained output of the hybrid Fiat 500. Daily assembly rates have fallen from 430 units earlier this year to 400 units, reflecting supplier challenges in meeting component demand.
3. Impact on 2026 Targets
The extended stoppage raises concerns about market demand and production plans for Stellantis’s 2026 target of 100,000 hybrid and electric Fiat 500 units. Trade union feedback suggests repeated halts may indicate weaker-than-expected sales momentum for the model in Europe.
