STMicroelectronics Launches ST64UWB SoCs with 3 dB Boost and 8× Range for Automotive

STMSTM

STMicroelectronics introduced the industry’s first ST64UWB family of integrated SoC solutions supporting both IEEE 802.15.4ab and 802.15.4z, built on 18 nm FD-SOI with a nearly 3 dB link-budget improvement and 8× range extension. The series offers multi-millisecond ranging, narrowband assistance and AI-accelerated chips for child presence detection and precise vehicle localization.

1. Product Launch and Standards Support

STMicroelectronics unveiled the ST64UWB family, marking the industry’s first integrated system-on-chip solution supporting both the upcoming IEEE 802.15.4ab ultra-wideband standard and the existing IEEE 802.15.4z specification. Built on 18 nm FD-SOI technology, these SoCs combine two standards in a single device for streamlined adoption.

2. RF Performance Enhancements

The ST64UWB series delivers a nearly 3 dB boost in link budget and extends signal range over eightfold compared to prior generations. Technical enhancements such as multi-millisecond ranging and narrowband assistance enhance connection stability when devices are obstructed.

3. Automotive Safety and Localization

ST64UWB-A chips enable safety-critical automotive features including child presence detection and precise vehicle localization. Select models incorporate AI acceleration to support advanced radar use cases and high-precision ranging in complex environments.

4. Ecosystem Adoption and Developer Kits

Industry leaders and Tier 1 suppliers are already sampling the new devices, which remain backward compatible with the 802.15.4z ecosystem. STMicroelectronics is providing comprehensive development kits—featuring a full UWB stack, radar toolboxes and reference designs—to accelerate deployment.
