Sulzer to Provide Engineering Expertise for Spinnova Fiber Industrial Scale-Up
Swiss industrial engineering firm Sulzer has joined Spinnova’s ecosystem to support the launch of its fiber technology in the textile market. Sulzer will provide engineering expertise in energy efficiency, emissions reduction and resource management to enable reliable industrial-scale production of microfibrillated cellulose-based fibers.
1. Sulzer Joins Spinnova Ecosystem
Sulzer, the Winterthur-based industrial engineering and manufacturing firm, officially joined Spinnova’s ecosystem to advance the adoption of Spinnova’s patented cellulose fiber technology in the textile materials market. This partnership follows Sulzer’s collaboration on the Woodspin project from 2021 through 2023 and builds on its prior support for pilot production of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC).
2. Engineering Support Services
Sulzer will deliver technical support focused on energy efficiency, emissions reduction and resource management to ensure Spinnova’s fiber production operates reliably at an industrial scale. The firm’s expertise spans process optimization, equipment design and operational troubleshooting for MFC-based fiber production lines.
3. Implications for Industrial Production
By integrating Sulzer’s engineering capabilities, Spinnova aims to scale its zero-waste, wood-pulp–derived fiber technology without chemical dissolution. This move is expected to accelerate commercialization timelines, strengthen Spinnova’s market proposition and potentially open new revenue streams for Sulzer in sustainable textile manufacturing.
