Super Micro contractor pleads guilty in scheme to divert AI servers to China
SMCI•A contractor linked to Super Micro pleaded guilty to a scheme to illegally export servers containing Nvidia AI chips to China. Prosecutors previously charged three people with conspiring to divert about $2.5 billion worth of U.S. AI technology.
1. Guilty plea entered
Ting-Wei “Willy” Sun entered his guilty plea on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, a court docket showed. Prosecutors charged Sun and two others associated with Super Micro, including a co-founder, in March.
2. Alleged export scheme
The indictment alleges the scheme began around 2024 and used a company in Southeast Asia as a pass-through entity to conceal China-based end customers. Nvidia’s B200, H100 and H200 chips, and servers containing them, are subject to U.S. export restrictions, the indictment said.
