Synopsys, OpenAI strike deal to develop AI model for chip design work
SNPS•Synopsys and OpenAI will develop GPT-Synopsys, an AI model for chip design, under a revenue-sharing deal. Synopsys also expects 15% revenue growth in fiscal 2027, above analyst estimates of 11.19%.
1. Chip design partnership
Synopsys said it will share revenue with OpenAI as they develop GPT-Synopsys, a model trained to handle chip-design tasks. OpenAI will pay Synopsys a training subscription fee, and the companies will share revenue when Synopsys customers use the product, based on how much it improves chip design.
2. Growth forecast
At an investor summit, Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi said the company expects 15% revenue growth in fiscal 2027, above analyst estimates of 11.19%. Shares rose as much as 7% after the partnership and forecast announcement.
3. Verification remains essential
The model will learn to use Synopsys software to help engineers make design trade-offs and optimizations. Ghazi said Synopsys tools using traditional computing techniques will still verify whether a chip works.
