Taiwan chipmaker PSMC says management stable after chairman's death

The management team at Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC) remains stable and its cooperation with Micron will proceed as planned, acting Chairman Brian Shieh said on Tuesday.
Taiwan's fourth-largest foundry by revenue said on Friday its founder and Chairman Frank Huang had died from cardiopulmonary failure.
"The management team remains stable," Shieh said, adding the company's strategy would remain unchanged and follow the direction set by its late chairman.
PSMC's business and Micron deal
PSMC manufactures dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips and mature-node logic chips, including power management ICs and display driver ICs.
Earlier this year, Powerchip sold its P5 chip fabrication facility in Miaoli County to U.S. chipmaker Micron and agreed on a long-term contract manufacturing deal.
Under the deal, PSMC would provide part of the post wafer fabrication (PWF) services for Micron's high-bandwidth memory chips, a critical component for AI processors.
Shieh said the company's cooperation with Micron would proceed as planned.
The company said in July a mini test line for its cooperation with Micron would be set up by the end of this year and mass production was targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.
