Tencent Launches PayPal QR Payments, 40+ Wallet Partnerships and 90-Day Fee Waiver
PYPL•Tencent has unveiled its 2026 Inbound Payment Service Upgrade Initiative, including a PayPal QR code payment feature launching first in the US and wallet partnerships with over 40 overseas institutions. It enables tax refunds for departing travelers and offers a 90-day waiver on up to RMB1,000 daily international card fees.
1. Initiative Overview
Tencent introduced its 2026 Inbound Payment Service Upgrade Initiative to streamline digital payments for international visitors in China, targeting enhancements in wallet partnerships, tax refunds and international card support within Weixin Pay.
2. PayPal QR Code Integration
Under a new collaboration between TenPay Global and PayPal World, PayPal users in the US will be able to complete WeChat Pay merchant transactions via QR codes, with rollout to additional regions planned in later phases.
3. Tax Refunds and Fee Waiver
The programme partners with domestic tax refund agencies to process departure refunds directly to overseas e-wallets and grants first-time international card users a 90-day waiver on processing fees for spending up to RMB1,000 per day.
