Tesco to sell Czech, Slovak businesses to Ahold Delhaize in $1.9 billion deal
TSCO•Tesco will sell its Czech and Slovak businesses to Ahold Delhaize for an enterprise value of €1.7 billion ($1.90 billion), expecting €1.2 billion in net cash proceeds before tax and transaction costs. Tesco plans to return most of the proceeds through an incremental share buyback after completion, targeted for the second half of 2027.
1. Sale details
The deal includes all Tesco stores and offices in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, plus distribution centres in Kralupy, Presov and Beckov. Tesco expects the transaction to be broadly neutral to earnings per share and to its net debt-to-EBITDA ratio following the buyback.
2. Hungary business
Tesco said its Hungarian operations are not part of the deal and that it will review options for that business separately. Ahold Delhaize already operates the Albert supermarket chain in the Czech Republic.
