Tesla Seeks FSD Fast-Track Approval in Flanders Following Dutch Green Light
Belgium's Flanders region has asked Tesla to provide documentation to fast-track its supervised full self-driving software after provisional approval on Dutch roads last month. Transport minister Annick De Ridder aims to decide by week’s end on regional adoption, while Tesla has submitted requests to Wallonia with Brussels yet to respond.
1. Dutch Provisional Approval Clears EU Hurdle
Last month, the Netherlands regulator granted provisional approval for Tesla’s supervised full self-driving software, making it the first EU country to allow the system on public roads under driver supervision.
2. Flanders Fast-Track Application Under Review
Transport minister Annick De Ridder has requested that Tesla submit technical and safety documentation to evaluate a fast-track approval in Flanders, with a decision expected by the end of the week.
3. Regional Authority Drives Belgian Rollout
Tesla has also filed an application in Wallonia, while control resides with Belgium’s regions; Brussels has not yet commented, and the central government defers to regional bodies.
4. Broader EU Regulatory Landscape
Despite optimism from Tesla CEO Elon Musk about EU green-lighting full deployment, several countries including Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway remain skeptical of FSD's safety benefits.
