Thor Explorations released a preliminary feasibility study for its Douta gold project in Senegal, adding to its West Africa portfolio alongside the Segilola mine and Côte d’Ivoire exploration assets. In 2024, the company produced 91,667 ounces at below $1,000/oz AISC and forecasts 75,000–85,000 ounces at $1,000–$1,200/oz AISC in 2025.
1. Thor Explorations Reports Preliminary Feasibility Study for Douta Project
Thor Explorations Ltd. has released the results of its preliminary feasibility study for the Douta gold project in northeastern Senegal, marking its second major milestone outside Nigeria. The company, which operates the 92,000-ounce-a-year Segilola mine in Nigeria (initial open-pit resource of 0.5 million ounces grading 4.2 g/t) and holds early-stage exploration assets in Côte d’Ivoire, reports that Douta will leverage existing regional infrastructure—including a paved highway and grid-power connection—to optimize capital deployment. Management highlighted that the study anticipates a multi-year mine life with surface mining and conventional processing, targeting a throughput of 1.2 million tonnes per annum. In 2025, Segilola achieved operational efficiency with production just under 92,000 ounces at an all-in sustaining cost below US$1,000/oz; Thor’s 2026 guidance stands at 75,000–85,000 ounces at an AISC of US$1,000–1,200/oz. These metrics underpin Thor’s regional development strategy and de-risk the timeline to first gold at Douta, currently slated for late 2027 subject to financing and permitting.
