TotalEnergies Finds No Deficiencies in 2,108-Acre Tilenga Land Program, 99% Compensation Paid

TotalEnergies published an assessment of its Tilenga Project land acquisition in Uganda, covering 2,108 acres and impacting 4,954 households, which found no systemic deficiencies and confirmed over 99% of compensation paid and all resettlement houses delivered. TEPU launches an action plan for livelihood support, vulnerable assistance, grievance tracking and closure.

1. Assessment Findings

The independent review by Canadian firm Land & People Planning Ltd evaluated the land acquisition, resettlement and livelihood restoration program for the Tilenga Project across Uganda’s Buliisa, Hoima and Kikuube districts. It concluded that the program met IFC Performance Standard 5 with no material systemic deficiencies, confirmed acquisition of 2,108 acres, impacted 4,954 households, secured over 99% of compensation agreements signed and paid, and delivered 100% of resettlement houses.

2. Planned Action Plan

Based on the assessment’s recommendations, TotalEnergies EP Uganda (TEPU) will implement an action plan covering continued livelihood restoration monitoring, tailored support for vulnerable households, strengthened grievance management tools and communication, integration of gender-disaggregated data, focused engagement for resettlement closure, and initiation of the formal closure audit.
