1. MoU for Offshore Exploration in Egypt
TotalEnergies and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) formalized a memorandum of understanding to conduct preliminary exploration and subsurface evaluation off Egypt's north-western Mediterranean coast. The agreement outlines collaborative seismic surveys, data sharing and environmental studies as first steps in assessing the region’s deepwater gas potential.
2. Framework Aims to Boost Discoveries and Investment
Witnessed by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the MoU establishes governance structures, joint technical committees and cost-sharing arrangements. Recent incentives, flexible regulations and resolution of outstanding payments are designed to restore investor confidence and accelerate field development to boost domestic production.
3. Mediterranean Strategy and Egypt Footprint
Active in Egypt since 1998, TotalEnergies operates over 240 service stations and engages in fuel retail, LNG, lubricants and renewables. The company is expanding its Mediterranean gas portfolio, evidenced by this MoU and a parallel technical review pact for Block 3 offshore Syria with QatarEnergy and ConocoPhillips.
