On July 9, 2026, TotalEnergies shipped the first cargo of LNG from ECA LNG Phase 1 in Baja California. The single-train facility has a nameplate capacity of 3.25 Mtpa and sources U.S. Permian Basin gas via existing regasification infrastructure.
2. Offtake and Stake Details
Holding a 16.6% stake in the project alongside Sempra Infrastructure, TotalEnergies will be the sole offtaker during ramp-up, securing 1.7 Mtpa of LNG under a 20-year contract starting at commercial operations.
3. Strategic Asian Market Access
Located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, ECA LNG provides the shortest maritime route to Asia, reducing shipping times and costs. A second phase expansion is under development, targeting substantial completion in summer 2026 to boost capacity further.
