Toyota develops athlete motion-analysis data to boost performance, support AI basketball robot CUE

Toyota outlined R&D to integrate motion-analysis technology into a new Toyota Sports Center gymnasium due for completion next year.

Development work covers motion analysis for baseball, softball, sprinting and volleyball, with plans to extend to rugby, basketball and soccer.

A human-motion dataset is being built to improve athlete performance, and the data is being used to help AI basketball robot CUE dribble past defenders.

Toyota positioned the program as a talent pipeline, moving staff between sports measurement and vehicle engineering through a “career multi-pathway.”
