Trump said he had offered Iran nothing to end the war, rejecting reports citing U.S. officials that he was willing to ease sanctions and release frozen Iranian funds in exchange for concrete progress on Iran’s nuclear programme. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran was ready to negotiate on its nuclear programme and other issues but would not accept “bullying or coercion.”
2. Hormuz proposal
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said reopening the Strait of Hormuz depended on meeting Iran’s conditions. He said a proposed deal would start a seven-day countdown to reopening the strait and pausing regional fighting. Trump rejected the plan on Saturday; Araqchi said mediators had not officially conveyed a U.S. rejection.
3. Oil prices rise
Oil prices rose for a second session as concerns about Middle East supply outweighed signs of recovering regional crude exports. Brent futures gained 1.4% to $106.77 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate rose 1.5% to $93.94.
