DJT•Outside investors in Trump Media have collectively lost an estimated $2.2 billion, while Donald Trump’s 114.75 million shares were worth about $460 million at Thursday’s closing price of $4.02. The company says it has a strong balance sheet and is focused on creating shareholder value.
1. Investors face steep losses
Trump Media’s outside investors have absorbed an estimated $2.2 billion in losses, as the company’s shares fell and shareholders said they were losing hope. The estimate accounts for shares issued and sold by the company, predecessor entities and insiders, as well as share buybacks. Trump Media disputed the calculation, saying it misrepresented the company’s filings and market dynamics.
2. Trump’s stake remains valuable
Donald Trump’s 114.75 million shares, received without a cash payment in 2024 as part of the company’s merger with Digital World Acquisition, were worth about $460 million at Thursday’s closing price of $4.02. The stake had a paper value of more than $6 billion when the stock traded near its high. Securities filings show the Trumps invested little to none of their own money in Trump Media.
3. Business struggles to grow
Trump Media’s revenue has remained around $4 million a year for three years. The company spent more than $200 million building its Truth Social streaming service, which generated $630,000 in revenue from its August 2024 launch through the end of June 2026. Since the midterm elections, shares have fallen 32%.
