Trump told reporters he had rejected Iran’s proposal, which Iran said was transmitted to the United States through Qatari mediators. The plan would trigger a seven-day countdown to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and pausing regional fighting, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.
2. Shipping and diplomacy
Trump said Iran wanted to reopen the strait because it had no money coming in. The United States has imposed an economic blockade on Iran, while Iran’s blockade of Hormuz has drastically reduced shipping through the waterway. An earlier US official described discussions with Iran through mediators as “positive and constructive.”
