1. Democrats detail report
Senators Chuck Schumer and Sheldon Whitehouse said their report examined 19 EPA investigations, 13 investigations into nine other agencies and 13 probes involving 88 polluters. The report said campaign spending tracked after Trump's request was followed by tax breaks and revenues totaling hundreds of billions of dollars.
2. White House response
White House spokeswoman Taylor Rodgers rejected the report, saying the senators should examine their ties to the green energy industry and had wasted taxpayer money. The EPA recently announced rules to repeal Biden-era limits on carbon emissions from coal- and gas-fired power plants and prevent future climate-focused regulations on them. The EPA said the move would save the industry hundreds of millions of dollars in compliance costs; the Biden administration said its rule would produce hundreds of billions of dollars in benefits.
