Trump says Taiwan agrees to buy 30% of gas from Alaska pipeline
UNG•Donald Trump said Taiwan agreed to buy 30% of the natural gas from an Alaska pipeline project. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Taiwan committed to invest $4.4 billion in the project, though deal terms were not immediately clear.
1. Pipeline agreement
Trump said at an Alaska rally that Taiwan agreed to buy 30% of the natural gas from a pipeline project in the state. Lutnick said Taiwan had committed $4.4 billion to the project, while Taiwan’s economic ministry had no immediate comment.
2. Earlier commitments
Taiwan officials said in February they would increase U.S. natural gas purchases to about a third of the island’s imported supply this year and reduce purchases from other countries. Taiwan state energy firm CPC Corp signed an agreement last year with Alaska Gasline Development Corp to buy liquefied natural gas and invest in the pipeline.
