Trump to host crypto executives as SEC weighs regulations
COIN•SEC and CFTC move on crypto rules
The Republican president has pursued crypto-friendly policies since returning to office in January 2025, particularly through the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Sweeping crypto legislation has stalled in Congress.
The SEC on Tuesday proposed long-awaited rules that would exempt certain token offerings from securities regulations, making it easier for crypto companies to issue tokens and raise money. The CFTC is scheduled to discuss crypto regulation, among other issues, at an industry gathering on Thursday.
Expected attendees and political backdrop
CFTC Chair Mike Selig, SEC Chair Paul Atkins and crypto adviser Patrick Witt are expected to attend the White House event along with trade association officials and representatives from companies such as Coinbase, Ripple, Andreessen Horowitz and Nasdaq, Semafor reported, citing people familiar with the event.
