Trump and Xi drank tea at the White House and visited the National Archives on Friday, concluding a three-day summit. Trump said the talks had produced “great strides” and cited increased market access for US farmers and ranchers, while Xi described the relationship as one of “strategic stability” based on respect, fairness and reciprocity.
2. Trade details due Monday
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said details of limited agreements on trade would be released Monday. He said the countries agreed to exempt some goods from trade disputes, including US agricultural products and medical devices exported to China, and consumer and non-sensitive goods imported from China. Both leaders identified artificial intelligence as an area for cooperation.
3. Taiwan remains a concern
Xi urged Trump to handle Taiwan with prudence and adhere to a position opposing Taiwan independence, while seeking an end to US arms sales to the island. Trump did not publicly announce a change in US policy during the summit. US Senate Democrats criticized the meeting, saying it had not secured meaningful concessions on trade, security, artificial intelligence or human rights.
