Taiwan Semiconductor filed for a 15.46-hectare fabrication plant in Tainan with an EIA meeting set for March 26, aiming for a 2028 startup to produce advanced AI nodes. The project complements TSMC’s 2nm and A14 roadmap and secures AMD’s future chip allocations by expanding supply capacity.

1. New Tainan Fabrication Plant

TSMC advanced its EIA filing for a 15.46-hectare mega-fab at the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Tainan with a committee meeting on March 26. Construction is slated to begin later this year with operations targeted for 2028, allocating 8 hectares for production and the remainder to infrastructure, green zones, and offices.

2. Impact on AMD's Supply Chain

The new facility augments TSMC’s advanced-node capacity alongside planned 2nm and A14 plants, ensuring AMD receives high-performance AI chips. This expansion aligns with AMD’s roadmap to address surging global AI hardware demand and supports future product launches.
