TSX futures edge higher ahead of US inflation data
EWC•December futures on Canada’s S&P/TSX index rose 0.1% as investors awaited US GDP and PCE inflation reports expected to influence markets.
1. Futures edge higher
December futures on the S&P/TSX were up 0.1% at 6:33 a.m. ET on Wednesday. US GDP and PCE inflation reports due later in the day were expected to be the main market catalysts; stronger-than-expected inflation could extend the recent rise in global bond yields.
2. Index faces monthly loss
The S&P/TSX was set to end a five-month winning streak after a turbulent September, but remained on track for a ninth straight quarterly gain, its longest such streak on record. Trade tensions between the United States and Canada also came into focus after a US ban on many Canadian alcoholic beverages, motorcycles and dairy products took effect Tuesday.
