Uber Adds Hotel Booking with Expedia for 700,000+ Properties, Eyes Vrbo Rentals
Uber launched in-app hotel booking through a tie-up with Expedia, offering over 700,000 properties and future Vrbo rentals with search filters, map view, and payment via saved cards. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the feature advances Uber’s expansion beyond rides and Eats into a unified travel and services platform.
1. Expedia Partnership Enables Hotel Bookings
Uber now allows in-app hotel bookings via a partnership with Expedia, listing over 700,000 properties and offering search filters for price, amenities, guest ratings and map view. The booking tool lets users pay with stored card details and plans to add short-term Vrbo rentals in a future update.
2. Uber’s Shift to an Everything App
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said this launch pushes Uber beyond ride-hailing and Eats into a single travel and services platform, reducing steps and saving time and money for users. The move aligns with superapp models in China and follows similar diversification by rivals like Airbnb and social networks adding payment and booking features.
3. Upcoming AI and Voice Features
Uber will introduce AI-driven planning tools that can suggest weekly meals, generate shopping lists and arrange deliveries in one workflow. A voice assistant under development will enable users to navigate these expanding services through natural-language commands.
