Uber has partnered with autonomous driving firm WeRide to roll out 1,200 robotaxis across multiple Middle East cities, integrating them into its ride-hailing platform. The fleet marks one of the region’s largest autonomous operations, with initial services expected by late 2026.

Uber and autonomous mobility developer WeRide have formed a joint venture to introduce 1,200 self-driving vehicles into Uber’s ride-hailing network in the Middle East. This collaboration marks WeRide’s first large-scale operation outside China and positions Uber to accelerate its long-term automation strategy.
2. Deployment Plan
The initial phase will see hundreds of robotaxis deployed in key markets before the end of 2026, with the full 1,200-vehicle fleet scheduled to enter service by 2028. Operations will be rolled out city by city, accompanied by local infrastructure upgrades and regulatory approvals.

WeRide’s robotaxis leverage Level 4 autonomy featuring LiDAR, radar, and high-definition cameras, supported by cloud-based AI for real-time decision-making. Vehicles are fully electric, designed to operate without human backup drivers on pre-mapped urban routes.
