Uber is eliminating 23% of roles in its People and Places division, covering human resources, recruitment, workplace facilities and culture. The reduction impacts senior-level positions and represents under 1% of its 34,000-strong global workforce.
The cuts follow Jill Hazelbaker’s elevation to president and chief corporate affairs officer, adding oversight of safety operations and People and Places. Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that structural simplification and operational excellence are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of the People team.
Remote-work arrangements for HR staff are being rescinded, now requiring a minimum of three days in the office weekly under policies implemented last June. The company aims to foster better collaboration and clearer accountability within the reorganized division.
Despite the reductions, Uber maintains over 800 active job listings, prioritizing roles that support commercialization of its robotaxi services. The focused hiring underscores commitment to autonomous vehicle initiatives while optimizing cost structures.
