Uber partners with Joby on eVTOL launch while Wayve secures $1.2 B funding

UBERUBER

Uber announced a collaboration with Joby Aviation to integrate electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft into its ride-hailing network, with flights slated to begin in select cities by 2026. Self-driving startup Wayve raised $1.2 billion in Series D funding to expand autonomous robotaxi trials in London, intensifying competition in mobility.

1. Uber-Joby Aviation Collaboration

Uber and Joby Aviation have formed a strategic partnership to introduce electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi services under the Uber Air brand, targeting launch in select urban markets by 2026. Uber will manage customer booking, pricing and rider experience, while Joby provides and operates the aircraft in a revenue-sharing model.

2. Wayve’s $1.2 B Series D Funding

Wayve closed a $1.2 billion Series D round to accelerate development of its autonomous driving software and scale robotaxi trials in London later this year. The funding round, led by prominent VC firms, sharpens competition in self-driving technology, challenging Uber’s own autonomous mobility initiatives.
