UK given access to safety-test latest AI models, minister says
Britain's AI Security Institute is evaluating the latest advanced AI models, including Google’s Gemini 4 Argon, under voluntary agreements with developers. AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said the institute is working with the US government and major developers to assess risks and safeguards.
1. Models under evaluation
Britain's AI Security Institute is conducting evaluations of the latest generation of AI models, including Gemini 4 Argon, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said. The institute is working with the US government and major developers, including Google, to identify risks and test safeguards.
2. Access before deployment
Under voluntary agreements with major AI developers, the institute receives access to models before deployment to assess their capabilities and risks and contribute to emerging international safety standards. Narayan said Britain’s relationship with the US was built on trust and that he was confident the institute would be able to test the latest models.
3. Access concerns
The announcement did not specify all models under evaluation. In a September letter, the institute said Anthropic had made clear that no organisation outside the US had access to its Mythos 5.1 model.
